Songbirds
Although often declining in population there are still various types of songbirds to be found throughout the UK. Popular types of UK songbirds include:
- Buntings - most buntings will have some form of song although these tend not to be musical.
- Chats and thrushes - these families of songbirds contain some of the most famous birds that sing including nightingales and thrushes.
- Dippers - dippers are unusual songbirds in that they can use running water to wade and swim.
- Finches - many species of finches have very tuneful songs.
- Larks - both the skylark and the woodlark are to be found regularly in the UK. Larks are often to be seen singing in flight.
- Nightjars - these nocturnal birds tend to sing in the evenings.
- Orioles - these birds appear in the UK rarely but have a flute-like song.
- Pipits - these songbirds are commonly seen in upland areas of the UK.
- Sparrows - sparrows tend to have a series of chirps rather than a distinctive song.
- Warblers - there are various types of warbler in the UK all of which have their own distinctive songs.
- Wrens - wrens tend to have quite loud songs.
