Garden Birds
The actual birds that you see in your garden will depend on a number of factors including where you live and what kind of garden you have. Some examples of common UK garden birds include:
- Blackbirds - blackbirds can be identified by the yellow rings that they have around their eyes.
- Doves - in some areas doves are quite a common visitor to garden areas.
- Dunnocks - dunnocks actually visit gardens quite frequently but are not always spotted as they are shy birds.
- Finches - there are various kinds of finches that can appear in gardens including chaffinches, greenfinches and siskins.
- House Martins - house martins rarely nest on houses anymore but can still be seen in some areas.
- Magpies - magpies seem to be on the increase and can often be spotted foraging in gardens.
- Pigeons - both urban pigeons and wood pigeons will regularly turn up in local gardens.
- Robins - these popular birds are regular visitors to gardens all year round.
- Sparrows - sparrows turn up in many gardens all over the country especially house sparrows.
- Starlings - starlings are noisy birds that tend to flock together. They look a little like blackbirds.
- Thrushes - people often see song thrushes in their gardens although number are declining here.
- Tits - you can see various types of tits in your garden. The most common types are blue tits, great tits, coal tits and long tailed tits.
- Wrens - this is one of the smallest garden birds.
Bear in mind that you can boost the numbers and types of bird visitors to your garden by putting out food for them although it is important to make sure that you provide the right kind of food to suit their needs.
